open

The Bluths are considering purchasing a neon light sign that reads OPEN to place in their window.

Why?

Because their home is always open to anyone.

Over Memorial Day weekend, Mrs. Bluth's parents came for a visit. They were our first visitors and the first visit from parents since we have been married. A chance to show mom and dad that we are on the path to being grown ups and to show off our first home. It was definitely a journal worthy experience.

Chicago's deep dish pizza, Millennium Park, river boat ride, Lincoln Park Zoo, Cubs vs. White Soxs game, many other tours of the city and buildings, and adventures of riding the train kept us busy all day and then put us into a sleep coma at night.

Three full days are not enough so if you plan on visiting us, please plan a longer stay or multiple visits (or both).

The weekend's weather was cloudy, rainy, and chilly. With those factors it equated to very few pictures. Mrs. Bluth's mother refuses to be in most pictures so she was able to be our photographer and she was pretty busy with taking pictures of the buildings and the train. Mrs. Bluth believes that her mother will return home with 75% of her pictures containing some aspect of the train. Public Transportation is quite fascinating.

We went to Gino's East for some deep dish and the place is famous for the pizza, but also for the ability to sign/write all over the building.

We did find this signature:

"I'm a Mormon"

Proof that we went to the zoo:

The White Soxs' stadium was nice and they even had fireworks!

Half way through the third inning the rain started and within a couple of minutes the tarp was out to cover the mound.

The rain did not stop. In fact it turned into flash flood and we waited for about an hour until it calmed down a little and we could walk to the train. At one point, security was not letting anyone leave because it was too dangerous to go out in the storm. Mrs. Bluth's mother bought us ponchos except for Mr. Bluth. Mr. Bluth would not wear a White Sox poncho because he is a cub fan. So good old mama Lee went into the bathroom to find a clear garbage bag for him to wear. We all made it home safely.

It was a wonderful weekend.

Almost to the halfway point...

Mr. Bluth finished his first year of law school!!

One down and two more to go and Mr. Bluth is almost to the half way point!

These last two weeks Mr. Bluth has studied, studied, and studied. On Thursday after Mr. Bluth's last long day of studying, he came home and fell asleep on the couch while dinner was being prepared and then finally Friday morning he took his last exam. Does the sound of a four hour exam sound appealing to anyone?!

To celebrate that evening we simply just watched a movie (but it has been a long time since we have watched a movie together).

The real celebration began on Saturday because there was no need for Mr. Bluth to go to the library! As the famous quote goes: It's the little things that count in life. And the little thing that Mr. Bluth did not need to spend one hour in the library was amazing.

A morning run, Saturday chores, a trip to the Apple store (so grateful for a warranty), about 4.5 hours of walking all over Lincoln Park, and babysitting made for a great way to celebrate the defeat of the first year.

We found this conservatory and you feel like you are not even in the city so we sat and admired the ducklings.

City living often means having a child sleep in a closet or even having three children share one room in a two bedroom apartment. The family we babysat for just moved here from spacious Utah and the three children needed to get out of their apartment. We went to the park and we love the fact that the playground was huge and contained many things to run around and do and yet little Reese just wanted to sit on the animal statues.

Funny tidbit from the weekend was that we helped in Nursery. A perk for the children of having church at a school is that the nursery age children get to run around crazy in the gym.

The children enjoy running around the gym and playing and their laughter echoes so that every ear can hear them.

One cannot also miss the sound of a child crying/screaming.

While Mrs. Bluth was trying to calm a child down, Mr. Bluth insisted on taking a picture. Her facial expressions were hilarious.

Food/Comida/Alimento/Nourriture

*Disclosure: The purpose of this blog is not to inform readers on healthy food recipes/diets/or to track exercise progress.

Mr. and Mrs. Bluth would like to highlight food due to the following reasons:
1. Mr. Bluth is finishing his semester and dinner time is about the only time they have to spend together.
2. Mr. Bluth LOVES to eat.
3. Mr. and Mrs. Bluth's taste buds have been gleaming with joy after a few meals these last few weeks.

Now if you may be a glutenphobic, a vegan, or a coconut oil/quinoa obsesser, please don't be grossed out by the following meals. We love to eat healthy foods, but sometimes cheese and flower tortillas deserved to be eaten.

We have an unyielding love for anything with a Latin twist and therefore rice, beans, tortillas, and cheese are consumed about once a week through different concoctions. And we can't forget to mention our true love: avocados. Two Saturday's ago before Mr. Bluth's schedule got out of control, we ventured over to a restaurant called Nuevo Leon. Mr. Bluth had heard that it is the best Mexican restaurant in Chicago and the cheapest. The outing was to celebrate Mrs. Bluth's graduation since Mr. Bluth was still in Chicago when Mrs. Bluth got her victory dinner in December from her parents. To describe our experience after our first bite we wanted to do this all around the restaurant:
The food was delicious and to top off the experience there were home made tortillas. There is nothing better than home made tortillas.

As mentioned earlier, Mr. Bluth loves to eat and the best part about his love to eat is that he likes a lot of food and is willing to try anything that is placed in front of him.

He is easy-going with everything in life, including food. An example is that he developed the taste to eat Menudo on his mission. (yuck!)

Mrs. Bluth loves to cook now because anything she tries to make Mr. Bluth, he will eat and occasionally she tries to cook something that includes his favorite ingredients.

We have a winner! This chicken recipe included some of his favorite ingredients such as cheese, bacon bits, tomatoes, and just a little bit of bbq sauce. Although Mrs. Bluth never would have made this recipe if it were not for Mr. Bluth, she really enjoyed it too. The trick to cooking in the Bluth household is to simply use ingredients that we like and we will almost automatically enjoy the dish.

Cinco de mayo came which meant enchiladas for dinner. Mrs. Bluth used ingredients that were in the house plus a can of green enchilada sauce and the outcome were enchiladas with chicken, beans, onions, green peppers and many other random ingredients.

The best part about making enchiladas was that Mr. Bluth had enough leftovers for lunch for two days! That is what we call success.

One Saturday a few weeks after Easter, we went grocery shopping together. Mr. Bluth kept wandering off to get all the free samples and one time he brought back butter that was in the shape of a lamb. Now Mr. Bluth had the biggest smile when he brought back his new treasure and so it went into the cart. The funniest part about the lamb butter was that it was only 50 cents!

Life together lately has been revolved around food, but there are no complaints. Please know that we eat healthy food too! We did babysit last Friday night and Mrs. Bluth only managed to take one picture. Babysitting is turning into one of our favorite weekend activities.
